Pam Thurman, Music Teacher Richardsville Elementary School, Warren County
Pam Thurman is a certified music teacher with over 22 years experience in vocal music education in public and private school in Kentucky and Minnesota. She has taught all ages, from preschool through the 12th grade, as well as 3 1/2 years at the university level Western Kentucky University, teaching elementary education majors how to teach music to children. She currently teaches elementary music in the Warren County School System at Richardsville Elementary.
She holds a Bachelor of Music Education Degree and a Master of Arts in Education from Western Kentucky University and has also studied music at the University of Kentucky, Hamline University, University of Minnesota, and die Hochschule fur Musik in Vienna, Austria. Pam's oboe teachers include Benjamin Woodruff, Bruce Morrison, Pat Grigne, Hans Kautsky and Hands Hadamovsky. Her mentors in composition and arranging are Dr. David Livingston, Dr. Charles Smith and Cecil Karrick.
As a performer, Pam plays second oboe in the Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra and is one of the orchestra's charter members. From the beginnings of the orchestra through the current season, the BGCO will have performed over 150 of Pam's arrangements and transcriptions in genres including Bluegrass music, Beatles, '70s Motown, Country, movie scores and TV show themes. In addition to her work for the BGCO, she has also written Orchestrations for the Bowling Green Western Symphony Orchestra, Southern Kentucky Concert Band, Bowling Green Youth Orchestras and other ensembles in the area. In February 2008, the Lexington Philharmonic will be performing two of her arrangements of songs written by Glen Rice, “A Man For All Times” and “Kentucky”. In her spare time, she plays in a girl band, “Sorella Musica", which means “sister music" in Italian.
She is married to Michael Thurman who plays French horn in the Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra and teaches math in the Bowling Green City School System. They are members of Living Hope Baptist Church. Together, they have three daughters and seven grandchildren.
Glen Rice is a singer/songwriter who has also had the privilege of being in education for over 30 years. He served as a teacher for a period of time while earning his Master Degree in Guidance and his Rank 1 in School Administration. The opportunity presented itself for Glen to pursue his administrative hopes when he first served as guidance counselor, and shortly thereafter became an elementary principal in LaRue County, Kentucky. Glen served as principal for 15 years before choosing to retire and pursue other interests. "I love working with young people and still do, however, I felt it was time to pursue other career possibilities such as singing/songwriting that I had passed over in my earlier years."
Since 2001, Glen has produced and released many CD projects He has written numerous songs that have been aired on radio and television. His original music is being heard on over 1600 Country and Country/Christian radio stations both nationally as well as internationally, and his music videos are playing on various television stations across the nation.
He travels all over the country performing, and is currently producing a Musical Concert Series in Kentucky that features top talent from different parts of the United States. In 2004, Glen was nominated for Music City Gospel’s Male Artist of the Year and Video/Song of the Year featuring “My Precious Little Girl(s)”. “My roots are in gospel music, however, my love for singing and writing has allowed me to cross over into many different genres of music." Listeners of his music often express that Glen's songs are relatable to everyone and his style is truly his own.
Glen's flair for patriotism along with the fact that he was born in Hodgenville, KY, which is the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln, has prompted him to co-produce a musical entitled, "Lincoln: A Man For All Times”, with Pam Thurman. “It has been a pleasure to Co-write this musical with Pam. She is a dedicated teacher, musician, talented writer and arranger, and exhibits a true love for music.” Two of his songs, “Keep On Keeping On” and “A Man For All Times” are featured as the cornerstone and theme songs for this enjoyable musical that celebrates Lincoln’s life from his birth through his Presidency.
Glen is married to Peggy Money Rice who serves as the high school librarian in the Fort Knox Community School System. They have three daughters and two grandchildren.
As co-composers, we hope that you and your students enjoy this historical musical, “Lincoln: A Man For All Times” as much as we enjoyed writing it. It has truly been a labor of love.
